Fitness equipment can be very expensive. If you were in the market to buy a treadmill, elliptical, exercise bike or any other type of equipment you would notice that they could be quite pricey. Even so, people will still purchase fitness equipment because they think it will be easier for them to get into shape.

There is another option to a brand new machine and that is to buy used exercise equipment. You can still get a good quality exercise machine for half the price of a brand new one. In order to ensure that you are getting a good deal you should research the fitness equipment of your choice in advance so you can quickly identify if it is a good purchase price.

There are a couple of places to buy used fitness equipment. Advertisements placed by individuals through classified ads or even eBay. These people have already decided to sell their equipment because the novelty has worn off and so instead of it sitting around at home they have considered getting a little money for it. Another reason for them selling would be so they can upgrade to a different or newer model. Either way, you really should see the equipment from an individual seller prior to making a commitment to buy.

Responding to the advertisement in your local newspaper ensures that you can actually go to the person’s house to have a look at the fitness equipment. When you are looking at used equipment make note of a couple things such as; the fitness equipment has all of its parts and there is no rust or worn out spots. Have a little work out on the machine for about 10 minutes to get a feel for it and see if you hear any strange noises.

Be aware that many pieces of equipment don’t have warranties and that replacement parts for older brands and models can be difficult to find. Be sure that you know where the original owner bought the equipment from so if you ever have problems you can contact the store directly.

When you purchase used fitness equipment online one disadvantage is that you cannot go somewhere to see the unit. Therefore, be sure to check out the rating system that is used on eBay. The rating system is to help the buyer make an informed decision about the seller’s product by viewing the other buyer’s comments. Also, ask for pictures of the used fitness equipment and look for signs of wear and tear.

Many places are now selling remanufactured or refurbished fitness equipment. Many gyms like to simply lease their equipment so they can update their equipment on a regular basis. Then the manufacturer restores the equipment and sells it for a fraction of the original price. However, there is a problem with the lack of standardized quality control. Some companies will strip down the unit to the frame and do a great job testing the machine and making sure everything works. However, some companies may simply repaint it and call it good as new.

Be sure to check around for information about a manufacturer and even a private individual before you decide to buy fitness equipment from them.

I want to discuss how the treadmill works. Let me paint you a picture first. Have you seen a belt sander in action? It is like a miniature conveyor belt that goes around and around, only there is a one piece sandpaper that fits on it and goes around and around with it.

Well treadmills work on the same principle. In the middle of this machine there is something like a conveyor belt that goes around and around and you need to keep in step with it. It can be adjusted according to the speed you would like it to go-the faster the more intense your workout..so obviously when you are first starting out, you need to keep it at low speed until you are acquainted with the machine.

There are really only two types of treadmills available for you to purchase. One of them is sort of self propelled. In other words you supply the energy for it to go around and around. The second type, and the one I recommend is the electric one. You just plug it, get on it and press the button. That’s all there is for a fantastic and fulfilling workout equivalent to any elliptical, rowing, or ski machine on the market.

I believe the best place to shop for a treadmill machine is on the Internet. I believe this because you can usually get a much greater selection than in say, a shopping mall. Stores are usually limited to one or very few brands whereas the Internet carries every brand on the market. Plus if a store only carries one brand you will get a very biased opinion. Shopping at a place where there are many brands you will get a more honest review of the treadmill product.

I think most of us that are out of our teens realize that walking is one of the best exercises that a person can do when attempting to get his body in shape. Health and fitness have become a such a great craze in this society today we are always aware that we need to get our bodies in shape. But many people like myself, hate to walk. It is just too boring for me. I’ve attempted it too many times-but soon flat out quit.

A great alternative I have found for walking is getting on a treadmill and just walking till my little heart’s desire is fulfilled. I find that a treadmill is not so boring and I can watch TV or something that makes time fly much faster than a boring walk. Plus it does it’s job wonderfully.

I find also that a treadmill is much less tiring than doing weight lifting or aerobics or other more intensive work out exercises. With a treadmill it doesn’t matter if it’s raining outside or what the weather is like; you can just go in your room and privately work out on your treadmill and get as intensive as you like. Some people think intensity is good but that is not necessarily so. You are better off to go at a pace that suits you individually

It is no wonder that treadmills are so very very popular today. They give you a great physical work out on par with any other exercise machine — like an elliptical machine or a bow flex, or a rowing machine; it gives a workout equal to any of them and for some reason you just feel great when you get off that machine. You are ready for your shower and really fell good about yourself.

The simple flat out answer to this question is that you don’t need exercise equipment but the main reason that exercise equipment is so popular is because of its convenience. Most people just won’t exercise without a machine. Think about it-you can go in to your treadmill turn it on and have an intense workout as you’re watching TV or as you are listening to music through your Ipod.

I have heard some people put a negative slant on exercise machines because they think it isolates you from social interaction. My answer to this is that when I work out I want to concentrate on my workout and not socializing. If I want to socialize I will go to church or join a country club-but when I am ready to have an intense workout I don’t want any distractions.

So I think it all comes down to each individual. Even though exercise equipment, like a treadmill, costs a good bit of money, if it does its job and keeps you fit how can you put a price tag on your personal health. Personally I have belonged to various gyms and I found it to be too time consuming. Now I have four different exercise machines and love them — they have kept me tone and fit.

I believe that you need to diversify your exercise routine. For example you might have an intense aerobic exercise, then switch to AB exercises mixed in with some light weight training. So it is really up to the individual to choose what he is comfortable with. I personally love exercise machines because they do their job, they are convenient, and I can go in to the other room and do my exercise in private. Believe me it is much quicker than changing my clothes, jumping in the car and going to the gym. But the main thing is your health and fitness

Have you ever noticed when you slip on the television right before you go to bed how all the late-night infomercials are filled with the newest and latest revolutionary forms of exercise equipment. Whew! I mean it is all over the TV. Not only that-I also noticed that the shopping channels are cluttered with things like treadmill machines and elliptical machines. They are really popular.

The message they are broadcasting to the viewer is “yes you can get that beautiful figure back ladies;” and yes man you can have six pack abs and bulging muscles in a matter of days. It is all very appealing because we as human beings are endowed universally with a sense of vanity aren’t we?

Not only the commercialism on TV but there are gyms all over the place that are packed with exercise machines and rows and rows of treadmills with sweaty bodies striving and agonizing to get through their 45 minute exercise program. In fact that is why all these people are agonizing at the gym-they have a plethora of machines..wall to wall exercise machines.

Yet with all this national craze centered upon exercise machines it begs the question “is all this equipment necessary for losing weight and being fit?” Someone might answer “people have been slim and trim for hundreds of years without all these machines that are at out disposal-why do we need them now?”
